Unlike my mother and many females I know, watching Korean dramas and Korean movies to me have been nothing more than a grand waste of time which could have been put to far better use. To use the kindest words possible, most of the movies are just plain nonsense and over-drama IMHO. And I have noticed that the Korean film-makers like to inject some slapstick humor and a "village idiot" character even in a grandscale(Tsunami) or horror movie. Chaw, falling in the latter category was not spared.
Chaw is the story of a monstrous savage boar who together with its mate, starts praying on hapless humans in a village. The village hires a group of bear-hunters who kill the boar's mate and the authorities assume wrongly that there is only one killer. They roast the boar's mate and the smell of the meat attracts the boar who attacks the town hall where the villagers are celebrating. The boar escapes of course unscathed and a strange assortment of pp, a detective, a policeman with a mother who is the village idiot in this show, a wanna-be lady associate professor, an old hunter whose granddaughter was 1 of the 2 hapless humans killed and his ex-student, a famous bear-hunter. They manage to find the boar's cave and 3 little pigs in it. They decide to kill all but one pig. The boar comes back as they are exiting the cave and chases them. They get away - and the famous bear-hunter is injured when he subsequently tries to kill the beast. The party then splits into 2 groups and one group kills the beast by using an elevator (the boar is trapped in the elevator shaft) and dynamite (the boar gets blown up). After the credits are shown, the famour bear-hunter is shown to be hung up by his hands wearing a diaper and the white-faced creepy woman who appears occasionally for fright effects during the movie is seen to be sharpening a knife and making him call her mommy.
The Slog Reviews: 6.5/10. A show that could be watched on DVD instead of the cinema. There is nothing memorable about the show except that the 120mins used watching it could have been better spent. It isnt a proper horror movie that leaves you spooked and disturbed but more a movie filled with ridiculous characters who say and do the most silly things.
